His Word

John 1 says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

I love how John starts his gospel by describing that God and His Word are one. It was through God’s Word that all things were made. God’s Word is of utmost importance to our movement and our relationship with Christ. Knowing His Word helps us understand who He is and draws us closer to Him. One of the core values of Christian Surfers is to be gospel-centered; we are faith-focused, with the Bible as our authority.

This month, in Christian Surfers communications, we are focusing on the importance of God’s Word and engaging with it as a central pillar of our walk with Christ. There’s an idea in scripture that first statements or actions can set the tone, establish key themes, and highlight important truths, providing a framework for understanding the subsequent content. This is why Psalm 1 is so important! The first Psalm (out of 150) emphasizes the importance of God’s Word. It says, “Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord, who meditates on it day and night. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither; whatever he does prospers.”

We will be launching the new Surfers Bible in July. This is a perfect time to reflect on and think about the crucial role God’s Word plays in changing people’s hearts and drawing them to Him.
